On Tax Day, Early Childhood Educators Called On Legislators to Fund Child Care by Making Big Corporations Pay What They Owe

We all have to pay our taxes every year. There are no loopholes. We pay what we owe – or else!

But right now, the biggest corporations and the wealthiest people seem to play by a different set of rules. They are not paying their fair share in taxes. That means less revenue for Illinois—and less funding for child care and the other services our communities depend on.

So on Tax Day, child care providers, center workers and advocates descended on Springfield to demand that our state invest in child care.

We met with legislators to tell them that it’s time for a change. Big corporations and the ultra-wealthy have gotten away paying almost nothing in taxes for too long.

We know it’s going to take a drumbeat of all us who care about child care to continue to raise our voices together and demand the investment we need. That’s why we won’t back down from the fight to win the future we deserve – where every family has access to affordable child care and every child care job is a good job.
